GIF Compressor
Shrink any GIF, animated WebP or APNG to an exact file size. Pick a platform preset or set a target in KB — the engine iterates frame rate, colors, lossy quality and resolution until it fits. Everything runs locally; your file never leaves the browser.
How to use
- 1
Drop in a GIF, animated WebP or APNG (or paste one).
- 2
Pick a preset like Discord Emoji or set a target size in KB.
- 3
Optionally crop, resize, or drop frames for extra savings.
- 4
Click Create GIF and download the result — it stays on your device.

Frequently asked questions
›How does the target-size mode work?
QuickGIF tries a planned sequence of encodes — first lowering frame rate, then reducing the color palette, then increasing lossy compression, and finally downscaling — until the output fits your byte target. If it still can't fit, you get the closest result plus a concrete suggestion.
›Is my GIF uploaded to a server?
No. Compression runs in a Web Worker on WebAssembly inside your browser. Files never leave your device unless you explicitly create a hosted share link (coming soon).
›Why does lowering colors shrink a GIF so much?
GIF frames are palette-indexed to at most 256 colors. Fewer colors mean better delta-compression between frames and shorter dictionary codes, so file size drops roughly proportionally.
›What is the maximum input size?
Guests can process files up to 50 MB (mobile is capped at 50 MB and 30 seconds of video). Registered Pro accounts will raise the limit to 200 MB.
›Can I compress an animated WebP or APNG?
Yes. Animated WebP and APNG are decoded with WebCodecs (or an in-browser fallback) and can be re-exported as GIF, WebP, APNG or MP4.
›Why is my compressed GIF still too large for Discord emoji?
Very long clips sometimes can't reach 256 KB at watchable quality. Try trimming the loop shorter, cropping tighter to the subject, or keeping just every 2nd frame.
